A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms
It has been a while since I watched anything Game of Thrones related. After the original series ended, I kind of moved on and didn't feel the urge to go back. But when «A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms» came out, something pulled me in again. And I'm really glad it did.
The show is set about a hundred years before the events of Game of Thrones and follows Ser Duncan the Tall and his young squire Egg on their journey through Westeros. What I loved most is the storytelling pace. It's not rushing through plot points to get to the next big twist — it takes its time with the characters, lets you sit with them, understand their motivations. The character development is exactly my taste. You genuinely start caring about Dunk and Egg, their dynamic, and the people they meet along the way. Plus, the story itself is really well written, which is no surprise considering it's based on George R.R. Martin's novellas.
If I have one critique, it's the look and feel. Some scenes felt a bit too polished, too computer generated. Westeros should feel rough and lived-in, and in certain moments that grittiness was missing. It's not a dealbreaker at all, but compared to the earlier seasons of Game of Thrones, where everything felt raw and real, it stood out to me.
Still, this was one of my favourite watches in a while. It reminded me why I fell in love with this world in the first place. The layered storytelling, the morally complex characters, and that feeling of being dropped into a world that feels bigger than any single story.
Now we have to wait for the second season.
